Outgoing Kenyan Ambassador to the United States Robinson Githae has urged Kenyans in the diaspora to join Savings and Credit Cooperative Societies (Saccos).
Speaking during the 6th Annual General Meeting of the Kenya and USA Diaspora Sacco members in Boston, Githae said Kenyans living and working abroad can contribute more to the country’s economy by joining societies.

The sound of Afrobeat music could be heard against a backdrop of dancing men and women, in between the movements, small group conversations in Swahili and English took place as loud voices competed against the sound of music. In the same area children excitedly played volleyball, tag, and soccer. On the grill, the smell of nyama choma (grilled meat), filled the air for the annual Madaraka Day celebration .

Thiong’o was registered on the National Integrated Identity Management System (NIIMS) together with his wife, Njeri wa Ngugi.

Kenyan-American, Mwende Mwinzi’s nomination to be appointed Kenya’s High Commissioner to South Korea has been backed by the Kenya Diaspora Alliance (KDA) regardless of her dual citizenship.
A parliamentary committee asked her to either renounce her American citizenship or forget the prestigious appointment as Kenya’s constitution dictates that a State officer cannot hold dual citizenship .

A man and woman from Kenya have been crowned the winners of the Cleveland Marathon.
Edwin Kamaiyo, 33, made his American racing debut by overtaking two-time champion Philemon Terrer near the 24-mile mark and holding on for victory in the 42nd annual Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon. His winning time was 2:22:02.

Kenya’s Chief Justice (CJ), David Maraga, added a feather to his cap as he was awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws degree at Andrews University in Michigan, USA.
The Supreme Court president shared his joy at being granted such an honour from the 145-year-old American University.

A Kenyan lady studying in the United States was treated to a surprise by American Comedian Ellen Degeneres when she was united with her family during a live TV talk show.
Achieng Agutu, who has been struggling to make ends meet in the US, also won $50,000 after she and her family played a game during the show where they were required to pick one out of three cards which represented different figures.

THE METROPOLITAN MUSEUM OF ART in New York recently announced new artist commissions.
The Met plans a series of contemporary art installations at its Fifth Avenue flagship. For one of the projects, Wangechi Mutu is creating sculptures that will be installed in the niches in the museum’s Fifth Avenue facade.
Kenya’s flag carrier airline Kenya Airways said Friday it has reached an agreement with American airline Delta Air Lines to activate its codeshare with Delta in the United States and Canada.
Kenya Airways chief executive officer Sebastian Mikosz said the partnership will enable both the business and leisure travelers to enjoy greater connectivity and efficiency in 11 U.S. cities and four Canadian cities.

Atlanta is in the flight plan for Kenya Airways, a SkyTeam partner of Delta Air Lines Inc. which could eventually fulfill the latter’s decade-old effort to link its hometown and Nairobi, Kenya’s capital.
Kenyan Ambassador to the U.S. Robinson Njeru Githae told Global Atlanta that his country’s the flag carrier is eyeing links with Washington, then Atlanta, following the opening of a nonstop route to New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport last October.

Many things surprised Connor J. Cobb in his first months working with high school graduates in Kenya—an East African country of nearly 50 million people—and one thing he did not expect to find was that some Kenyan runners he met in his travels would already know of his hometown of Falmouth and the Falmouth Road Race.
The 24-year-old member of the Falmouth Track Club, who graduated from Falmouth High School in 2013 and graduated last May from Wesleyan University with a degree in European history, has been working for the Kenya Scholar-Athlete Project, or KenSAP, since September.
He recently returned home for a month of college admissions visits for the nonprofit, including at his alma mater, before returning to Kenya.
China president Xi Jinping’s Belt and Road Initiative, which has spread throughout the world including the African continent challenging the U.S.’s economic dominance, is proof enough of China’s ambitions.
But last week even in Atlanta there were intimations that a more dynamic role for the U.S. would be welcome in Africa if it upped its commitment.
Kenyans living abroad sent almost $2 billion (Sh200 billion) to their families and others in their homeland in 2017, a US data-analysis group said.

Leakey Kipkosgei, who came to American International College from Kenya, has had quite a career as a long-distance runner on coach Leo Mayo’s track and field team.
As a junior in 2018, he placed third in the steeplechase at the NCAA Division II nationals, and made the All-America first team.
Prior to that, he received male track athlete of the year honors after winning the 1,500 and steeplechase in the Northeast-10 meet.
