Outgoing Kenyan Ambassador to the United States Robinson Githae has urged Kenyans in the diaspora to join Savings and Credit Cooperative Societies (Saccos).

Speaking during the 6th Annual General Meeting of the Kenya and USA Diaspora Sacco members in Boston, Githae said Kenyans living and working abroad can contribute more to the country’s economy by joining societies.

Music, barbecue mark Kenyaโ€™s Madaraka Day in Minnesota

The sound of Afrobeat music could be heard against a backdrop of dancing men and women, in between the movements, small group conversations in Swahili and English took place as loud voices competed against the sound of music. In the same area children excitedly played volleyball, tag, and soccer. On the grill, the smell ofย nyama chomaย (grilled meat), filled the air for the annual Madaraka Day celebration .

Ngugi Wa Thiong’o registers for Huduma Namba in Los Angeles

As the Kenyan government commences registration of Kenyans in Diaspora, renowned Kenyan scholar Professor Ngugi wa Thiongโ€™o has been registered at the Kenyan consulate in Los Angeles, USA.

Thiongโ€™o was registered onย  the National Integrated Identity Management System (NIIMS) together with his wife, Njeri wa Ngugi.

Kenyan diaspora throw weight behind Kenya-American nominated as High Commissioner to South Korea

Kenyan-American, Mwende Mwinzi’s nomination to be appointed Kenyaโ€™s High Commissioner to South Korea has been backed by the Kenya Diaspora Alliance (KDA) regardless of her dual citizenship.

A parliamentary committee asked her to either renounce her American citizenship or forget the prestigious appointment as Kenya’s constitution dictates that a State officer cannot hold dual citizenship .

Yale University presented honorary degrees to 11 individuals who have achieved distinction in their fields at its 318th graduation ceremony recenty. Among the honorees were Nigerian author Chimamanda Adichie, Zimbabwean owner of Econet Wireless, Strive MAsiyiwa and Cynthia Moss, an American who has dedicated her life to the welfare of Kenya’s Amboseli elephants.

Kenyan man, woman win Cleveland Marathon

A man and woman from Kenya have been crowned the winners of the Cleveland Marathon.

Edwin Kamaiyo, 33, made his American racing debut by overtaking two-time champion Philemon Terrer near the 24-mile mark and holding on for victory in the 42nd annual Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon. His winning time was 2:22:02.

Kenya and US sign Bilateral Agreements to strengthen relations

ย Kenyaโ€™s top officials wrapped their four-day official visit to the United States on a high note after the conclusion of the inaugural Bilateral Strategic Dialogue (BSD) framework.

Boniface Kongin of Kenya and Bizuwork Getahu Kasaya of Ethiopia won the 26.2-mile Pittsburgh Marathon with times of 2 hours, 10 minutes, 34 seconds and 2:36:29, respectively.

Kenyan Wins $50, 000 on Ellen Degeneres Show

A Kenyan lady studying in the United States was treated to a surprise by American Comedian Ellen Degeneres when she was united with her family during a live TV talk show.ย 

Achieng Agutu, who has been struggling to make ends meet in the US, also won $50,000 after she and her family played a game during the show where they were required to pick one out of three cards which represented different figures.

Franciscan Childrenโ€™s Hospital Patient From Kenya Becomes U.S. Citizen

Kenya Airways inks deal with Delta Air Lines to expand operations in U.S.

Kenya’s flag carrier airline Kenya Airways said Friday it has reached an agreement with American airline Delta Air Lines to activate its codeshare with Delta in the United States and Canada.

Kenya Airways chief executive officer Sebastian Mikosz said the partnership will enable both the business and leisure travelers to enjoy greater connectivity and efficiency in 11 U.S. cities and four Canadian cities.

Kenya’s Cherono Wins Boston Marathon in Sprint to Tape

The two-time Boston Marathon champion turned onto Boylston Street with a sliver of a lead, leaning in front of two others with the finish line in sight.

But one of them was Lawrence Cherono, the fastest man in the field.

And he needed every bit of his speed.

Cherono outkicked Lelisa Desisa and passed him just steps away from the tape, winning the 123rd Boston Marathon in 2 hours, 7 minutes 57 seconds on Monday to claim his first major victory.

How Delta Could Help Kenya Airways Launch an Atlanta-Nairobi Flight

Atlanta is in the flight plan for Kenya Airways, a SkyTeam partner of Delta Air Lines Inc. which could eventually fulfill the latterโ€™s decade-old effort to link its hometown and Nairobi, Kenyaโ€™s capital.

Kenyan Ambassador to the U.S. Robinson Njeru Githae told Global Atlanta that his countryโ€™s the flag carrier is eyeing links with Washington, then Atlanta, following the opening of a nonstop route to New Yorkโ€™s John F. Kennedy International Airport last October.

Former CNN ‘Inside Africa’ host Soni Methu dies at 34

  • Her younger sister Faith said it appeared Methu suffered a seizure
  • Methu hosted the show Inside African on CNN International between 2014 and 2015
  • At the time of her death, Methu worked as a reporter for the Chinese-owned news network CGTN

This American is helping Kenyan Students study In US universities

Many things surprised Connor J. Cobb in his first months working with high school graduates in Kenyaโ€”an East African country of nearly 50 million peopleโ€”and one thing he did not expect to find was that some Kenyan runners he met in his travels would already know of his hometown of Falmouth and the Falmouth Road Race.

The 24-year-old member of the Falmouth Track Club, who graduated from Falmouth High School in 2013 and graduated last May from Wesleyan University with a degree in European history, has been working for the Kenya Scholar-Athlete Project, or KenSAP, since September.

He recently returned home for a month of college admissions visits for the nonprofit, including at his alma mater, before returning to Kenya.

China president Xi Jinpingโ€™s Belt and Road Initiative, which has spread throughout the world including the African continent challenging the U.S.โ€™s economic dominance, is proof enough of Chinaโ€™s ambitions.

Kenyans in diaspora sent home $2 billion

The estimate by the Pew Research Centre is based on statistics developed last year by the World Bank

The United Kingdom was Kenya’s single-largest source of remittances, with $663 million sent home in 2017.

Kenyans living in the US, which ranked second, sent back $584 million.

Ghana and Senegal each accounted for about $2.2 billion in remittances.

Kenyans living abroad sent almost $2 billion (Sh200 billion) to their families and others in their homeland in 2017, a US data-analysis group said.

Long journey for American International College runner from Kenya

Leakey Kipkosgei, who came to American International College from Kenya, has had quite a career as a long-distance runner on coach Leo Mayo’s track and field team.

As a junior in 2018, he placed third in the steeplechase at the NCAA Division II nationals, and made the All-America first team.

Prior to that, he received male track athlete of the year honors after winning the 1,500 and steeplechase in the Northeast-10 meet.
