Covid-19 economic crisis has given it new impetus to firms North America, to hunt for local sources of key raw materials that have traditionally come from East Asia. So things are looking up for the Tamarack nickel-copper-cobalt exploration project in the state of Minnesota in the US. What makes this perhaps even more interesting from a South African point of view is that the project is managed by Toronto Stock Exchange-listed Talon Metals (TLO.TSX), which has deep South African attachments.

SA farmers now heading to Canada to develop ‘prairie provinces’ – report

There has apparently been a ‘massive spike’ in interest from South Africans looking to move abroad.

report by Business Insider  reveals that skilled South African farmers with reasonable amounts of capital from the sale of their farms may be finding greener pastures in North America.

Canadian foundation appoints Nigerian journalist BOD member

A Nigerian journalist, Chief Femi Shodunke, has joined the Board of Directors (BOD) of a Canada based Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), Life of Hope Foundation.

The appointment of Shodunke, a one-time Deputy Editor of the Nigerian Compass newspaper on Sunday who is now based in Canada, was announced in a letter signed by the Foundation’s Founder/Chief Executive Officer, Anike Stella Onile.

South Africans living in Canada brave the snow to register for upcoming elections

While almost 10 million eligible voters in South Africa  have not yet registered to vote in the upcoming national elections, some South Africans abroad have braved the cold to play their part.

Meet 21-year-old Katelin Hogue who visited the South African High Commission in Ottawa, Canada, to register, despite the -18°C weather.

“The weather was very cold; the roads were snowy, and the traffic was busy. But going through all of it was worth it to get registered,” she told News24.
Hogue has been living outside of South Africa for 15 years and still makes it a priority to vote.
