For Nadia Wera, African-style braiding is a passion that developed into a career over the years.

“I’ve been braiding hair since I was in high school, it was sort of like my side hustle,” Wera laughed.

Wera moved to Canada from Kenya in her early high school years. She said options for African-style braiding in Winnipeg were limited.

Dying Canadian Begs his government to Let Kenyan Wife Visit Him in Canada

Patrick Kinsella, a retired youth services manager with the Ontario government, Canada, on June 8, issued a dying plea to his government to have his Kenyan wife, Mary Otieno Atieno, visit him before he passes on. Speaking to the media, Kinsella, who has had seven heart attacks since 2011 due to a hereditary heart condition, expressed his hopes that the immigration officials would grant his wife, and his 10-year-old stepson, Ramsey Dickson, 10, temporary residence visas to spend his remaining time with him in Canada.

Kenya Airways inks deal with Delta Air Lines to expand operations in U.S.

Kenya’s flag carrier airline Kenya Airways said Friday it has reached an agreement with American airline Delta Air Lines to activate its codeshare with Delta in the United States and Canada.

Kenya Airways chief executive officer Sebastian Mikosz said the partnership will enable both the business and leisure travelers to enjoy greater connectivity and efficiency in 11 U.S. cities and four Canadian cities.

This Kenyan couple wants to stay in Canada, permanently

Benjamin Muriithi and Maureen Wairimu Waithaka moved from Kenya to Rwanda to Namibia and finally to Nova Scotia, where they’d like to stay. At first they thought the immigration process would mean transferring their lives. They’ve since learned it’s more than that: it’s starting from scratch.

Here’s their story and videos created for CBC, which includes spoken word from Maureen. In the videos, Benjamin and Maureen are speaking the creolized version of Swahili called Sheng’. Benjamin says “Sheng’ freely mixes Swahili, English and our native languages.”
