Egyptian American on CBS show said to be the “first Arab American Muslim hero”

Arab Americans and Muslims are overwhelmingly cast as background characters at best, terrorists, dictators and other negative roles at worst.

But an Egyptian American actor named Zeeko Zaki has made headlines recently for his role as Special Agent Omar Adom Zidan, also known as “O.A.,” on the CBS crime procedural drama show “FBI.”

Egyptian movie wins 2 awards at Brooklyn Film Festival

The Egyptian movie “Between Two Seas” directed by Anas Tolba won the prize for the best narrative film and the Mariam Naoum Art Achievement Award at the end of the 22nd edition of the Brooklyn Film Festival, which ran from May 31 to June 9 in United States of America.

For decades, Phillipsburg artist Mohamed Bayoumi Mansour followed in the footsteps of his older brother, Ali Bayoumi. Bayoumi, a professor of architecture and prominent Egyptian artist, inspired Mansour to nurture his creativity and pursue his own career in the arts.

Egyptian-Canadian produces “Free Trip to Egypt” to allay fears of a Muslim country

Tarek Mounib knows he scares people. In the eyes of some, he is the embodiment of terror. Some fear his religion, which is Islam. Some also fear his ethnicity: He was born and raised in Canada by parents who emigrated from Egypt to Canada. Growing up in 1970s Halifax, Nova Scotia, Mounib’s was the only Muslim family in the neighborhood.

Audience member calls police on Egyptian-American comedian over jokes

A comedy clubgoer in Naples, Fla., called police to report that Egyptian-American standup Ahmed Ahmed told a joke about organizing a terrorist organization.

One day after seeing the comedian, the unidentified man called the non-emergency police line to report the “terrible” joke the comic said at the start of the show.

Mo Salah and Rami Malek Among TIME’s 2019 Most Influential 100

Egyptian football sensation Mohamed Salah has been listed among the TIME’s 2019 most influential people.

The 26 year old star also features on the cover of the magazine. Inside, HBO John Oliver paid tribute to the footballer, calling him an “an “iconic figure for Egyptians, Scousers and Muslims the world over.”

Wakanda was 4th most mentioned African nation on US television

The continent of Africa is home to 54 recognized nations — none of which are Wakanda.

Wakanda was the fourth most mentioned African nation on U.S. television for the month of March 2018, according to a new study from the University of Southern California. The fictional kingdom from Marvel’s “Black Panther” ranked only behind Egypt, South Africa and Kenya.

Non-comic book Africa does not include Wakanda, but does have 54 other recognized nations.
