The 36th edition of The Ethiopian Sports Federation in North America (ESFNA) Annual Sports & Cultural Event will take place in Atlanta, Georgia.
As is the case with previous editions, ESFNA 2019 is a week-long event and will take place between June 30 and July 6, 2019, the committee has disclosed earlier this month.
Lakewood Stadium, Lakewood Ave., Atlanta, GA, 30315 is where the soccer tournaments, cultural festival and Ethiopian Day, a signature event for the organization, will take place.
Ethiopian Day event is scheduled for July 5, 2019.
Apart from ESFNA events, Ethiopian entertainment groups have planned their own events. For example, Senselet Drama, a popular drama series, disclosed on its Facebook page on Thursday that it has partnered with Bunnamoure entertainment to present “hottest party of the year” in Atlanta GA from July 1st to July 7th.
Tens of thousands of Ethiopians from across North America travel to attend the festival. Ethiopians and People of Ethiopian origin even from Europe and Australia travel to North America to attend the event.
“The 36th year milestone will undoubtedly draw tens of thousands of Ethiopians and friends of Ethiopia from North America and the World to celebrate our love of sports and promote the rich Ethiopian culture and heritage,” wrote the Federation.
32 Soccer teams will take part in the tournament ; and the final game will be on the closing day.
This year, the Federation has announced five guests of honors. Hailemariam Shasho, a former soccer legend; Mohammod Ahmed, the legendary performing artist; Gila Michael, the legendary goalkeeper who led the Ethiopian National Team to victory at the 3rd African Nations Cup; Shewangizaw Agonafir, a former member and coach of the Ethiopian National Team and St. George’s soccer club and Mohammed Kedir, Olympic medalist in 5000 and 10,000 meters.
In terms of service provision, the Federation has announced that it is partnering with AVIS car Rental Company but the Federation has advised travelers to make a reservation with the company so as to get deals.
The 35th edition ofESFNAtook place in Dallas. And the issue of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s presence as guest of honour became controversial at the time and the board did not agree on his presence as a guest of honour.
