The event, hosted by former Real co-host Amanda Seales was also the 20th-anniversary of BET.
It was aired simultaneously via ViacomCBS networks.
British supermodel, Naomi Campbell presented the Best International Act award to Burna Boy.
Like the other artists, Burna gave his acceptance speech virtually due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
BET Awards join numerous other events which had to hold virtually due to the epidemic and stay at home orders.
Safe distancing measures continue to exist as things gradually begin to return to normal in countries like China and some parts of Europe.
However, the United States has starting seeing a second coronavirus wave in states like Florida and Texas.

Burna after the win said:
“Thank you very much BET — second time, I appreciate it.
I’ll like to use this opportunity to say that sometime around 1835, there was a mission to turn Africa (the nation of Africa) into a dominated nation.
Now is the time to overturn that and go back to the royalty that we were.
Because, in order for black lives to matter, Africa must matter.
Thank you very much.
I appreciate it.”
