Ugandan banks, real estate dealers, designers and entrepreneurs are gearing up for this year’s Uganda festival and expo in New York.
The annual event, which is organised by Ugandans in North America Association Causes (UNAA- Causes) provides a platform to market Ugandan brands in North America through their economic empowerment and entrepreneurship program.

A Ugandan doctor has been awarded a prestigious United States (US) award for his role in the treatment of heart diseases.
Dr. Emmy Okello, an interventional cardiologist at the Uganda Heart Institute (UHI), has been recognized by the American College of Cardiology for advancing the field of Rheumatic heart disease and interventional cardiology in Uganda.

Over 2000 Ugandans are expected to attend the 31st Uganda North American Association (UNAA) convention slated for August 29 to September 1 in Chicago.
According to the organisers, over 500 Ugandans have so far registered for the conference.
Julius Kabugu, the director of communication at UNAA told the New Vision that this year’s event will run on the theme, “Cultural Diversity & Economic Empowerment: Creating a Stronger Diaspora Community.”

Bunkeddeko, a first timer, challenged an incumbent Congresswoman, Yvette Clarke, representing Brooklyn’s District 9 for the last 12 years, and lost by just 1,750 votes.
Soon after the June primaries, The New York Post quoted a former staffer of Bunkeddeko’s opponent saying, “The blood is in the water,” alluding to the fact that Clarke’s political life was in grave danger.

The United States has urged African governments to improve their business environments to better attract major American investment. The U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, Tibor Nagy, made the comments during a four-nation tour of Africa.
The U.S. diplomat says many American businesses want to invest in Africa. But, Tibor Nagy says they first need to first see a more positive investment environment.
“Which means, minimum levels of corruption, fair treatment, honoring contract and quite frankly a good governance environment because that’s what American businesses want,” Nagy said.
Nagy made the comments after meeting Friday with Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni on the first leg of his four-nation African tour.
