Dr. Theo Nyame | Ghanaian-born Plastic Surgeon named 2020 Top Doctor Award winner by Charlotte Magazine

Dr. Theo Nyame, a Ghanaian-born Plastic Surgeon has been named one of the honorees of the Top Doctor Award by Charlotte Magazine. This is the second year in a row that the Harvard Medical School trained doctor has been named Top Plastic Surgeon in the Charlotte area by the magazine.

Every year Charlotte Magazine publishes a list of the top services, service providers, restaurants, businesses and personalities a part of the Charlotte, N.C. community. Some of the “best” categories include healthcare and medical service providers.

The Top Doctors listing is not something that is voted on by customers or clients though. If this were the case,  it would simply be a popularity contest. Instead, in order to best select the top doctors in CharlotteCharlotte Magazine polls doctors and asks them their insights regarding their peers, determining the best doctors in the area.

It also provides the most accurate assessment. After all, who better to determine the best doctors in the area than doctors themselves?

All this is why it is such an honor for not one, but two, Charlotte Plastic Surgery doctors to take home awards and be recognized for being identified as top plastic surgeons. 

Dr. Nyame was named a top Plastic Surgery doctor in 2020 by Charlotte Magazine, but this is not his first major accolade. From a young age, Dr. Nyame has always strived for greatness. Much of this started when his family immigrated from Ghana, West Africa to the Bronx, New York, when he was just eight years old.

Wanting to excel in life, Theo hit the books hard and eventually went on to receive his bachelor’s degree from Cornell University while graduating at the top of his class. For his medical degree he went to the Harvard Medical School with a focus in plastic surgery.

He obtained his Plastic Surgery Residency from the Harvard Plastic Surgery Program, his Research Fellowship through the Harvard Medical School Pfiffer Fellow, and then travel to Australia for his Aesthetic Surgery Fellowship at Gold Coast University Hospital, Queensland, Australia.

Since receiving his Doctorate of Medicine, he is now a remember of the American Board of Plastic Surgery and was recognized as one of the top physicians by Realself 100.

Beyond his regional awards given to him in the city of Charlotte, Dr. Nyame received the surgical teaching award, the Linnane Scholar for Academic excellence and community leadership, and the Hollis L. Albright, ’31 Scholar awards from the Harvard Medical School. He was a Massachusetts Medical Society Scholar, a published author of both medical peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, plus he has lectured at national international meetings, just to name a few of his professional awards and services.

Dr. Nyame offers his medical knowledge not only to the greater Charlotte area, but also to a number of hospitals around the world. He is a clinical advisor to the skin and trauma research center at the Medizinische Universitat Wein in Vienna, Austria. He also is an Adjunct Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Faculty member at the Pacific Private Hospital Breast Academy Center in Queensland, Australia.
