The long-awaited on-screen adaptation of Chimamanda’s bestseller, Americanah, is finally coming to life as a ten-episode HBO series starring Lupita Nyong’o and directed by Danai Gurira.

The duo of Nyong’o and Gurira have become a formidable force in Hollywood when it comes to their devotion to telling authentic African stories and especially the stories of women. These days, of course they’re both best known for their lead roles in 2018 blockbuster Black Panther set in the Marvel-created African country of Wakanda.

Studies in Canada: Procedures Eased for Moroccan and Senegalese Applicants

The Canadian government has decided to facilitate the  procedures for young Moroccans and Senegalese who wish to pursue their studies in Canada, through the Student Direct Stream (SDS) program, starting September 9.

Launched in 2018, this expedited study permit processing program has been extended to include students from Morocco and Senegal. Its processing time does not exceed three weeks.

When Shadrack Frimpong was awarded a President’s Engagement Prize from the University of Pennsylvania in 2015, the 23-year old thought he was putting his life on hold. Armed with a three-year, $150,000 grant, he, instead, found his life’s purpose. 

Shadrack returned to his native village, Tarkwa Breman, a remote cocoa-growing community in western Ghana. There, his vision to open a school and medical clinic with the farmers as active participants in the financing and operation has been a notable success.

Following the request of the The Ethiopian Embassy to the United States in Washington D.C. and the Ethiopian Consulate General in Los Angeles, the senate of the state of California has passed a resolution extending an invitation to the people of the regional states of Amhara, Oromia, Somali, the Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples’ Region, and Tigray in Ethiopia to join with California in sister state relationships.

The sister state relationship is intended to promote and assure mutually beneficial educational, economic, environmental, scientific, and cultural exchanges that will lead to a closer relationship between Californians and the citizens of these five key Ethiopian regional states.
